So while I’m still working on getting information, I am starting to look at other historical events that may be lost or yet to be discovered. So I’m looking for suggestions of what would be an interest to the residents and visitors to Monroe.

I have done some alone, with my son and with a group of people I know that also conduct investigations. Monroe has a rich history of other facts that are often overlooked or I should say, overshadowed by the War of 1812 and George Armstrong Custer.

Monroe’s past was generally swamp in the prehistoric age and under that lies layers of Limestone which some paranormal researches believe, is a natural conduct for paranormal activity. I have heard and some of you may have heard or experienced “something” that you or anyone else cannot explain.

The Paranormal is and has become quite popular in the past few years with a variety of television shows and when these experiences are reported… Those locations become a tourist attraction especially in businesses that report such occurrences.

However, what is needed is not just to promote them yourself but, have a group, with the proper equipment to try to document or explain what is happening. I myself is skeptical of evidence that I get and also is gathered by other’s that I may investigate with.

I would like the opportunity to meet and have a walk-though the property during the daylight hours so I myself and anyone that assists, becomes familiar with the area. Other details include; Length of investigation, amount of investigators. Depending on the location, other details may need to be discussed.

All information is confidential. Investigation results will not be given without permission from the property owner(s).

I will sign a waiver stating that I will not hold the property owner(s) liable for any injuries that may occur to me while on the property during the investigation. I also know some investigators that will also sign waiver of liability.

I have come across several referances about bootlegging & prohibition in Monroe and thought it would make an interesting book. Monroe has a lot of great history but is forgotten or more so ”over-shadowed” by other major events and/or personalities which they deserve their due however; there is more to Monroe.

I decided to take this on and I would like to ask Monroe County Residents for their stories, pictures, newspaper articles, etc. that is related to bootlegging in Monroe County.

Your name will not be used if requested. I would also like to include photos of the reported tunnels and secret hide-aways where the alcohol was hidden. Including reported speak-easys.

I am not sure about who or how it will be published however; if I am able to collect information for the book, I will work and find a way for publication.

When I find out about something and make the final findings, I will post it here.

I’m sure that every community has good and bad history and I’m the type that will not just show the good side. If I come across something that is bad, I will post it.

I have lived in Monroe nearly all of my life. I can’t say I lived here all my life but it has been close.
I’m now 47 years old and I never really had too much interest in history, let alone local history.
My excuse in school when doing poorly on a history test was, “I can’t help it. Everything happened before I was born.”
I don’t think that I need to go into details of the parent-teacher meetings but I’m getting away from the subject.

This all started in 2007 at the Monroe County Fair and since then, It has been a very interesting and fun experience.

I have investigated and found about a couple of Monroe’s Lost & Forgotten History which I have already posted on separate pages.
In addition, I will post of what I have discovered and some findings on the “Did ya Know?” page. I may post some observations of current known historical places that I kind of “Question” about what we’re told and what I happen to come across.

I am really interested in old photographs. For as far back in Monroe County as possible and into the 1970′s.
